Bali is just one of Indonesia’s many islands, lying to the east of Java and the west of Lombok.  A modest sized island, at around 150km from east to west and 110km from south to north Bali is about two thirds the size of Corsica or Puerto Rico.  At 8º south of the Equator, the temperature is a stable 30 to 32ºC all year round, cooler in the high range of mountains that lie across the island to the north.

Tourism and its related businesses have shifted the economic wealth and activity of Bali away from agriculture. While Kuta has been turned over to mass tourism and Sanur caters to a more relaxed crowd, Ubud has carved a special niche for itself as a refined cultural center for artists.  Amed in the east is de rigeur for divers; Lovina in the north is the favorite location for swimming with dolphins.

Now Bali is the preferred destination not only of Europeans and Australians, but also of Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore and the many business people of Jakarta.   As a result, many people see an opportunity not only to live at ease in a beautiful island, but also benefit from rental income from holding several properties – an added bonus in retirement or as something of value for the future.
